Sit comfortably in the nave, look up, and let the voice of the cathedral’s guardian spirit guide you on a timeless journey. You’re about to experience a 360-degree show where history, video mapping, and music come together to reveal the legend of this sacred monument.
Act I: The Rise of a Giant
From Roman fort to wooden chapel, Strasbourg begins to rise — and with it, a cathedral. After the fire of 1176, the builders embark on an ambitious and monumental undertaking. Unbeknownst to them, they are writing the story of a three-century-long construction that will give birth to one of the greatest monuments of the Western world.
Act II: Between Shadows and Light
Carved from stone, shaped by light, Strasbourg’s Notre-Dame drifts through the centuries like a dream. Its stained-glass windows speak of glory, war, and rebirth. At times Protestant, then Catholic, then an imperial symbol, it withstands revolutions and watches the world, guided by the slow rhythm of its astronomical clock.
Act III: The Cathedral of the Arts
Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque… the cathedral evolves but never ceases to inspire. Artists and musicians pass through its walls, drawn by its acoustics, its suspended organ, its thousand-year-old choir. In Strasbourg, stone becomes music, and the cathedral — a living work of art.
Act IV: Eternalize
A witness to the trials of history, Notre-Dame stands watch. Bombed, contested, restored — she survives it all. Within her walls echoes the memory of a plural Alsace, of a reconciled Europe. And from her spire, she continues to point the way.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
Begun in 1015, Strasbourg’s Notre-Dame Cathedral is the result of over four centuries of construction. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, it was crowned in 1439 with a 142-meter spire, making it the tallest monument in the world until the 19th century. Its sculpted façade, pink Vosges sandstone, medieval stained glass windows, and its famous astronomical clock make it an exceptional monument. Alternately Catholic and Protestant, it has withstood reforms, wars, and revolutions, without ever losing its central role in the history of Strasbourg. Classified as a historical monument in 1862 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, it now welcomes over 4 million visitors per year and remains one of the most powerful symbols of European heritage.
