Construction of Lorenzkirche began around 1250 and spanned more than two centuries.
As a masterpiece of German Gothic architecture, it continues to define Nuremberg’s skyline with its distinctive twin towers. Its richly decorated façade of pale sandstone, delicate tracery, medieval stained-glass windows, and the famous “Annunciation” relief by Veit Stoß make it a unique work of sacred art. Over the centuries, LORENZKIRCHE has witnessed the Reformation, wars, and revolutions — yet it has never lost its central significance in the city’s history.
Today, it is a listed monument, attracting over a million visitors each year, and is regarded as one of the most important Gothic structures in southern Germany — a living symbol of Europe’s cultural heritage.
