Before taking your seat for the show, walk freely through the nave of the Basilica, accompanied by the sounds of an exceptional soloist. Along your path, exhibition panels recount the major milestones of its history and invite you to take a closer look at the architecture and the stories that inhabit America’s first basilica. This introduction sets the stage for the wonder and awe of the immersive experience.
This first portion of the evening is offered exclusively during the Live Choir or Live Choir & Orchestra versions. Approximately 20 minutes.

The 360° Immersive Show
Sit back comfortably in the nave, lift your eyes, and watch The Basilica of Saint Mary come to life with light. An historic breath sweeps through the nave, sparking the curiosity of a child. In awe, she speaks with The Basilica revealing the foundation and future of The Basilica. From the earliest days, through ups and downs, experience a spectacular journey where past and present converse.

The LUMINISCENCE Orchestra, featuring musicians from the Twin Cities’ STRINGenius, enhances the voices of the choir during the Live Choir & Orchestra version performed entirely live. These performances offer a unique musical experience, where the power of the orchestra and the emotion of the choir blend perfectly. Experience the musical heritage of the Basilica with total sound immersion.

Begun in the early 20th century, the Basilica of Saint Mary is a jewel of sacred architecture located in the heart of Minneapolis. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style, it was completed in 1914 and became the first basilica established in the United States. Its elegant dome, soaring twin towers, intricate stone carvings, and magnificent stained-glass windows make it a remarkable landmark. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Built to serve the growing Catholic community of the city, it has stood through times of social change, economic challenges, and world conflicts, all while maintaining its central role in Minneapolis’ spiritual and cultural life. The basilica now welcomes thousands of visitors and worshippers each year and remains one of the most enduring symbols of Minnesota’s heritage.
