A TIMELESS IMMERSIVE SHOW

An immersive prelude to uncovering the secrets of the Old Church

The Program

The immersive 360° show…

Once you've taken your seat in the Old Church, you'll be surrounded by a spectacular light show, where history, video mapping, and music come together to tell the story of this beautiful place.

... with a narration by Daan Schuurmans

None other than Daan Schuurmans will take you on a journey through the rich history of the Old Church.

The Story

In Delft’s Old Church, nearly a thousand years of history come alive. The church takes you back to its origins in the 11th century, through the construction of its iconic leaning tower, and disasters like the great city fire of 1536. Time and again, it rose again, a symbol of resilience and faith.

The journey continues through Dutch history: the Iconoclasm and Reformation, William of Orange and the Eighty Years’ War, the birth of the Dutch Republic, and the flourishing of the Golden Age with masters like Johannes Vermeer.

Today, its story still resonates through its bells, windows and monumental organ. Luminiscence is an immersive journey through darkness and light – an ode to Delft and to the Netherlands.

Location

Oude Kerk

Begun in 1246, Oude Kerk in Delft is the result of over four centuries of construction. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, it was crowned in circa 1350 with its iconic leaning brick tower, which rises approximately 75 meters and gives the church its distinctive silhouette, though it was surpassed in height by the Nieuwe Kerk in the centuries following. Its sculpted Gothic structure, medieval stained‑glass windows (with the earliest dating from 1406), and its status as the burial place of notable figures like Johannes Vermeer make it an exceptional monument. Alternately damaged by fire, iconoclasm, and even the Delft gunpowder explosion of 1654, it has withstood wars and revolutions—without ever losing its central role in the history of Delft
